Description of Facilities

- residents in training at the Union Hospital Family Practice Center
- health professionals attending continuing education offerings
The LCHE is attached to the Union Hospital Family Practice Center and offers unique opportunities for health improvement and team learning through partnership and multidisciplinary education. The building houses Union Hospital's Richard D. Lugar Center for Rural Health, the West Central Indiana AHEC, portions of the Indiana University School of Medicine Terre Haute Center, and Indiana State University's College of Nursing.
Indiana University, Indiana State University, and Union Hospital jointly own the LCHE. It brings to fruition the 30-year vision to educate nurses, medical students, and family practice physicians in a facility that allows sharing of resources. All three programs had outgrown their existing spaces, and modern facilities were necessary to continue to incorporate innovative technology into the programs. The two-story 30,000-square-feet facility includes clinical examination rooms, three distance learning enabled classrooms, a 150-seat auditorium, six conference rooms, student study areas, and staff / faculty offices.
Financial support for construction of the LCHE came from:
- IUSOM through an appropriation from the Indiana General Assembly
- Union Hospital through a grant from the U.S. Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA)
- ISU through its sale of the Nursing Clinical Education Building.
The LCHE was named after
Morris Landsbaum, a Terre Haute developer and supporter of educational and medical services who bequeathed a substantial sum for the construction and to create an endowment for continuous technology updates.The facility was completed with full occupancy in the fall of 2003. A formal building dedication ceremony followed on September 26, 2004.
