Open Preference
What is Open Preference?
Open Preference is a non-designated
major for first year students at ISU. Selecting a college major is an
important decision because you have many interests and excel at
different tasks. But don’t panic; Open Preference can help you choose
the right major, a process which involves time, information, and
commitment. It takes time to consider all of the options. You will also
need information based on accurate data, statistics, knowledge, and
advice.
It can be difficult to select an area
from all of the majors offered at Indiana State University. The great
number of opportunities certainly makes it possible to select a program
that satisfies your interests and abilities. Your decision will take
introspection and self-exploration.
By selecting Open Preference as your
area of study during your freshman year, you will receive the
information and assistance necessary to make your choice of majors a
carefully planned and researched decision. Open Preference is one of
several programs located in Student Academic Services that can assist
you with your college career.
Why choose Open Preference as a major?
Students choose Open Preference for a
variety of reasons. Some students have so many interests that limiting
their choices seems problematic. Other students have narrowed down the
choices to two or three, but want more in-depth information before
making a final decision. Still others are certain of their ultimate
goal that involves attending a professional school after graduation
(such as Medical or Law school) but would like more guidance when it
comes to the choice of an undergraduate major.
Who
is in the Open Preference major?
You will not be alone! The Open
Preference major had the second largest enrollment of all majors at ISU
during the fall 2005 Semester.
