Recreation and Sport Management

Undergraduate Programs

The major course of study in the Department of Recreation and Sport Management stresses development of programming and management competencies in organizing, planning, and budgeting within a variety of settings.  Students are involved in learning the basics of recreation management while specializing in one of the following concentration areas:

In addition to the emphasis areas, students can earn additional preparation and  certification in either Nonprofit Organization Management through the ISU American Humanics Program, and/or working with youth through the ISU Journey Youth Work Fellowship Program.

Students interested in a minor in the Department of Recreation and Sport Management, can choose the following:


The department major is nationally accredited by the  National Recreation and Park Association/American Association for Leisure and Recreation Council on Accreditation.

The Sport Management emphasis is approved by the National Association for Sport and Physical Education and the North American Society for Sport Management.

The Recreation Therapy emphasis is based on criteria established by the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification
