Dr. Kimberly J. Bodey is an assistant professor and
sport management emphasis coordinator in the Department of Recreation
and Sport Management at Indiana State University. She earned an EdD in
Recreation with an emphasis in public policy and a MEd in Sport
Management from the University of Arkansas. She holds a BS in
Kinesiology from the University of Illinois. While on faculty at Indiana
State, Dr. Bodey has taught graduate and undergraduate courses in
administrative theory and management practice, organizational leadership
and ethics, governance and policy development, research and evaluation,
and sport law. She is also a member of the University Athletics
Committee. A former Division I track and field coach, Dr. Bodey has
experience in championship event planning and management, resource
development and budgeting, rules compliance, and personnel
administration. She has presented at various track & field camps and
clinics on the principles and practices of coaching as well as field
event specific skill development and techniques, strength and
conditioning, and risk management.
During the last 5 years, Dr. Bodey has worked
closely with sport administrators and educators in Morocco and Cyprus.
Funded by the US State Department, the Sport Management & Leadership
Capacity Project was a partnership between Indiana State University,
La Federation Royale Marocaine de Football, Hassan II University-Mohammedia,
and E’cole des Lioceaux de l’Atlas de Football. This training program
intended to strengthen the administrative and managerial capacity of
sport leaders in Morocco. Working in conjunction with the Global Center
for Independent Studies (Limassol, Cyprus), Dr. Bodey has presented
workshops on the organization of sport leagues and using evaluation to
improve program services in sport agencies. She has also taught graduate
courses in Governance and Compliance, Evaluative Research, and Legal
Aspects of International Sport Management.
Dr. Bodey has served as a program advocate, meeting
with Senators Evan Bayh and Richard Lugar in Washington, DC, on behalf
of the National Youth Sports Program. She has also worked on the
Lake Wedington Project, a natural resource management partnership
between the University of Arkansas and the US Forest Service. Dr. Bodey
has evaluated programs and services on behalf of the Newton County (AR)
Resource Council, United Way of the Wabash Valley, and Indiana State
University.
Dr. Bodey has given more than 25 presentations in
the United States and abroad. She has several publications in scholarly
journals and academic textbooks related to risk management, policy
development, personal and organizational ethics, organizational justice,
and legal authority and jurisdiction in sport management. Her research
interests include how governance structure impacts ethical
decision-making and practice in sport organizations. She has a
particular interest in how policies are created and the way rules
encourage and discourage fair play in intercollegiate and professional
sport.
Dr. Bodey is a member of the American Alliance of
Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance, North American Society
of Sport Management, National Recreation and Parks Association, Sport
and Recreation Law Association, Indiana Association for Health, Physical
Education, Recreation and Dance, and the Indiana Park and Recreation
Association. Dr. Bodey also serves on the editorial board of the
International Journal of Sport Management and LARNet: The Cyber
Journal of Applied Leisure & Recreation Research.
