Alliance for Excellence through Engagement and Experience
The Alliance for Excellence through Engagement and Experience is an
initiative coordinated through the Office of Academic Affairs and Center for
Public Service and Community Engagement and supported by the Lilly Endowment's
Initiative to Recruit and Retain Intellectual Capital for Indiana Higher
Education Institutions. The purpose of the Alliance is to:
- attract and retain engaged students and faculty;
- develop high quality experiential learning opportunities across the
curriculum;
- support the University's efforts to work with the community on important
projects for the state and region; and
- build faculty excellence in the scholarship of teaching and engagement.
The work of the Alliance supports the community engagement and experiential
learning initiatives of Indiana State University's Strategic Plan,
Fulfilling
the Promise.

Grant Opportunities
The Office of the Provost and Vice President for Academic
Affairs and the Alliance for Excellence Through Engagement and Experiential
Learning are pleased to announce opportunities to support Experiential
Learning and Community Engagement. Four programs
are available:

Curriculum and research support for experiential
learning and community engagement
Each program is described separately by clicking the links
below. The Faculty Fellows and Community Research Graduate/Undergraduate Fellows
programs are supported by a grant from the Lilly Endowment.
Experiential learning is defined as: Active engagement in
learning activities that results in skills or knowledge transferable to
professional settings. It includes: service-learning, student-faculty research,
field experiences, creative and artistic activities, study abroad, and active
approaches to learning.
Community engagement is defined as: “Direct, two-way
interaction with communities and other external constituencies through the
development, exchange, and application of knowledge, information, and expertise
for mutual benefit.”
Community engagement includes:

The scholarship of engagement, which focuses on the
application of knowledge and applied research designed to help increase
understanding of a local or regional problem or test solutions for that
problem;

Community-based research that addresses issues defined
in collaboration with public partners;

Community-based learning, including internships and
service learning.
