CHARGE TO THE SEARCH COMMITTEE BY THE ISU BOARD OF TRUSTEES.

The Indiana State University Board of Trustees is charged with defining and carrying out the mission of Indiana State University with the fiduciary responsibilities implicit in that charge. To implement and administrate the activities and policies of Indiana State University, it is one of the foremost duties of the board to hire, interact with and evaluate a President of the University. Based upon the announcement of the President Lloyd W. Benjamin, III that he will conclude his term as the tenth president of Indiana State University effective June 30, 2008, the Board hereby appoints this Presidential Search Committee to assist with the identification of candidates to become the next President of Indiana State University.

To assist with the search and to provide counsel to the Presidential Search Committee as well as the Board of Trustees, the Board has engaged the services of William Funk of R. William Funk & Associates. The Board has also ratified the appointment of selected individuals to a Search Committee. This Search Committee is comprised of a diverse group of persons with associates from multiple facets of the University family.

The Board of Trustees of Indiana State University charges its Presidential Search committee to:

• Review and finalize desired presidential attributes as proposed by the Board in consultation with various constituencies and documents that will focus the recruitment of prospective candidates and guide the search process;
• Develop a process, outlining recruiting and screening steps, and clarifying roles and responsibilites;
• Adopt a timetable for search that will enable the Board of Trustees to make an appointment by the spring of 2008;
• Conduct a national search to attract highly  qualified candidates, including minorities and women;
• Make periodic reports to the Board of Trustees and the ISU campus community about the progress of the search;
• Maintain a focus on the interests of the University as a whole , while bringing the benefits of individual experiences to the process;
• Observe strict confidentiality with the "sunshine" laws of the State of Indiana in the conduct of the search to protect  the interests of candidates and to maintain the integrity of the search process;
• Recommend three to five finalists candidates, unranked, to the Board of Trustees for their consideration.

The Board of Trustees will make the final selection of the next President of Indiana State University and will also be responsible for coordination of the negotiation and execution of an employment contract with the successful candidate.
