An interactive discussion of the history, impact, and current
status of women's suffrage. Sheron J. Dailey, emerita Professor of
Communication will share the story of her grandmother, Mary Elizabeth
Owens Dailey. The Women's Studies Program faculty will also
celebrate the first scholarship in Women's Studies, "the Bessie,"
created by Dr. Dailey in honor of her grandmother.

America's Democracy Depends on America's Youth
Faculty and students involved with the American Democracy Project
will discuss the role of the "Youth Vote (ages 18-24) in the 2008
presidential campaign and in electoral politics. Students (of all
ages) are encouraged to participate in this discussion as we identify
strategies designed to increase the already remarkable gains in
political participation by younger citizens.

with special emphasis on the integration of America's public schools.
Items include The Story of Ruby Bridges
(book by Robert Coles and George Ford); The Problem
We All Live With (lithograph by Norman Rockwell published in 1964
Look Magazine; excerpt from John Steinbeck's
Travel with Charley (first hand account of
Ruby Bridges integrating her New Orleans school); and a film of the
presentation of the Indiana National Treasure Award to Charles D. Burks.
4:00 p.m. March Against Hate
Led by ISU Affirmative Action/Diversity Office
Participants will march from the Center for Performing and Fine Arts, around the
campus and back to Dede Plaza (the Fountain) to demonstrate commitment
to act against hatred, discrimination, and intolerance. There will
be pizza at the Fountain for those who march.
