Minor in Computer Aided Design (CAD)

A minor increases your employability and supplements your skills and abilities. A minor makes you more flexible and adaptable.

Indiana State University’s minor in CAD focuses on the technology of using computers as a tool to help design, analyze, and produce products, components, and tooling. Every product, component, machine, and tool has to be designed. This design doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Designing has to be managed and integrated with marketing, manufacturing, and other industrial functions. The design of a product most directly affects its manufacturability, salability, and cost. The minor in mechanical technology is very beneficial to anyone involved in industry. Our faculty members all have industrial experience that contributes to the quality of our laboratory approach to teaching technology. Students in the minor gain valuable experience with the theory and application of CAD, solid modeling, and analysis.

Industrial technologists are management-oriented technical professionals skilled at hands-on problem solving. Adept at creating and managing technology, industrial technologists are also excellent at communicating and coordinating technical information among customers, vendors, front-line employees, engineering, and top management. Our placement is virtually 100%. As a graduate of our program, you can apply your skills and abilities in careers such as the following.

1978 graduate, current job title: Director of Tooling, salary: $135,000/yr; 1984 graduate, Staff Project Engineer, $75,000/yr; 1991 graduate, Costing & Packaging Manager, $58,000/yr., 1996 graduate, Mechanical Design Engineer, $55,000/yr; 1999 graduate, Manufacturing Engineer, $45,000/yr.
