MASTER OF SCIENCE
The Department of Electronics, Computer
And Mechanical Engineering Technology of Indiana State University has a program for earning a master of science degree to meet the needs of individuals preparing for career advancement or improvement. This program prepares students for careers in such areas as: electronics quality control, technical sales, field representation, electrical power, or computer control of industrial processes. COURSES
A minimum of 32 semester hours, one-half of which must be taken at the 600 level, is required for completion of the master's degree in Electronics and Computer Technology. Course work within the program consists of three phases:
Content (23 semester hours)
During this preliminary program phase, students acquire or improve competencies relating to advanced electronics, industrial control, and computer technology. Course work includes the following:
Research: 3 semester hours from Industrial Technology Education, Manufacturing and Construction Technology, or Electronics and Computer Technology 698.
Major: 9 semester hours selected from Electronics and Computer Technology courses 537, 542, 623, 634, 661, 663.
Major Electives: 2-5 semester hours as approved by the advisor.
Electives: 6-9 semester hours from courses outside the department as approved by the advisor.
Application (6 semester hours)
During this second phase of the program, students incorporate content principles, procedures, and skills to effectively demonstrate: familiarity with tools of research; scholarship in their field; an ability to work independently; and an ability to present results of the investigation. Completion of these six semester hours may include: ECT 699(thesis) or ECT 697 (major project) for six semester hours.
Integration (3 semester hours)
As a culminating experience, all electronics and computer technology master's candidates must schedule a seminar near the end of their academic program. The seminar is designed to help students assimilate their previous study in the discipline. Students will enroll in ECT 680 (Seminar: Analysis of Technical Systems) for three semester hours or, with approval of their advisor, may substitute MCT 602 (Seminar in Industrial Professional Technology)
