How To Make the University System Work for You

As an Indiana State University student, you are part of a network that offers an abundance of services and resources.

These resources are accessible on the ISU campus, at learning centers located throughout Indiana - and virtually anywhere in the world via the Internet.

The following are a few pointers.

ESTABLISH and maintain contact with the Office of Distance Support Services.  This office is staffed with individuals who are eager to answer your questions and to assist you with registration, financial aid, and any of the steps necessary to complete your degree. In addition, this office can connect you with student service coordinators located throughout the Indiana. You can contact this office - day or night - via e-mail and voice mail at (812) 237-8080, 1-888-237-8080 (toll-free USA), or studentservices@indstate.edu

TAKE ADVANTAGE of the free or reduced rates offered to you as an ISU student. Your ISU Sycamore Card (student identification card) entitles you to free admission or reduced rates for campus events; many businesses and organizations, located throughout the United States, offer special student rates.

ENRICH your learning and your life. Take a virtual trip to Indiana State University, and visit Cunningham Memorial Library, the ISU Career Center, and other services available to you as an ISU student. Identify and contact any of these services that will help you complete your degree and plan your future. If you do not have access to the Internet in your home or at work, take advantage of the internet-connected computers available to you - free of charge - at libraries and learning centers located throughout Indiana.

INTERACT as frequently as possible with your instructors and fellow students.  Studying at a distance provides you with a unique opportunity to learn new, highly marketable technical and communication skills. Students and instructors at Indiana State University, and at other campuses throughout the world, are reporting a more enhanced, individualized form of communication made possible by the use of electronic mail and other communication tools.

SCHEDULE A VISIT to the Indiana State University campus. Come alone or invite your spouse, your child, or a friend to join you for an athletic event, a play, or a concert. Schedule one-on-one appointments with your instructors, your academic advisor, or a career counselor. Take a tour of the campus, browse at the Cunningham Memorial Library, and enjoy a meal at one of the restaurants in the ISU Commons. For details on upcoming events, browse the ISU Calendar of Events.

ASK QUESTIONS and read, read, read. Begin by reading the articles in the Distance News archive. You will discover a list of student service coordinators located in your area, information on obtaining an ISU Sycamore Card, tips on wellness, and other helpful articles. If you have any questions - please ask.
