The master of science in health and safety includes a specialization in occupational safety management.

Graduates of the safety program are qualified to be specialists who:

Program Completion
A distance learning student is considered a part-time student. The University allows part-time students seven years to complete their degree work. Due to the frequency of course offerings, the minimum time to complete the degree is two years.

Students are encouraged to apply early to ensure admission. Applications received after these deadlines will be accepted and every attempt made to ensure consideration for the desired semester or term.

Requirements for Occupational Safety Management Specialization (12 credit hours)

Admission Requirements

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum requirements:

  1. Hold a baccalaureate degree granted by a regionally accredited institution, with course work in the following areas:

    --One year college-level chemistry (organic and inorganic plus lab); and
    --One semester of college algebra, trigonometry, or calculus
     
  2. Satisfy one of the following:
--Baccalaureate degree in safety management related field; or
--Two years of professional work experience within the field (as approved by the department); or
--Personal proficiency recognition via certification

  1. Apply online or use the mail-in application.
     
  2. Submit official transcripts from all colleges previously attended. To be official, transcripts must be sent directly from one institution to another.
     
  3. Submit scores for the General Tests of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE).
     
  4. Submit a letter of interest describing your academic and/or employment experience as well as your reasons for pursuing the master’s degree.
     
  5. Submit a current resume (1-2 pages).
     
  6. International applicants must submit official scores for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or provide equivalent evidence of language proficiency.
     
  7. Submit a $35.00 (nonrefundable) application fee, payable by Visa, MasterCard, or check or money order payable to Indiana State University.
