Osher Lifelong Learning
Institute
at
Indiana State
University
The
Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), formerly known as the
Dewey Institute for Lifelong Learning, is a non-profit,
membership organization open to all adults in the Greater Wabash
Valley, with programs designed to meet the needs and interests
of persons age 50 and over. At the OLLI center are academic
programs that are designed by its members and tailored to suit
their interests. All of these programs (lectures, courses, and
special events) are offered without concern for prerequisites,
credit, or grades. Indeed, the only prerequisite for membership
is a love of learning.
The Osher Institute emphasizes collaborative
leadership and active member participation. Although members
volunteer their time to carry out its primary organizational
responsibilities, the support of Indiana State University makes
these programs possible.
The
OLLI program is supported by a generous
grant from The Bernard Osher Foundation. The Foundation is interested in
establishing programs for "seasoned adults" in each of the 50
states. As of 2007, the OLLI program at ISU is the first
and only Osher Institute in the state of Indiana.
The Osher Institute is affiliated with the
Elderhostel
Institute Network.
Trial membership is now being offered for the remainder of the
2007-2008 year (April-August) for $10. Membership is usually $25 per person, per year (September-August), which
entitles participants to attend all the single lectures.
Courses are $10 each and special event fees vary by event.
If you
have any questions, please call Cheryl Pruitt or Linda Crossett at
812-237-8707, or the OLLI Program Administrator, Michelle Bennett,
at 812-237-2336.
