Dr. Balch will take you on a virtual tour of the renovation process and how it is being transformed into the new home of the College of Education, relating how the structure itself has and will impact teaching and learning. He will also deliver a “state of the state” on teaching today. From The Chronicle, 10/20/06:  Buildings influence our moods and psychology, our conversations and silences, our sense of place and history. They isolate or join and connect or disconnect us to time and history, seasons and nature. “

"That Crook is Not in My Family Tree"

With Loran Braught, Professor Emeritus and Founding President of the Wabash Valley Genealogy Society

This lecture will cover ideas from why and how people start and enjoy genealogy to how they see history that was caused by our ancestors. Do I have to have a computer to do genealogy? Do I have to travel long distances to do genealogy? How can we prove that I descended from a revolutionary soldier if I want to join the Daughters or Sons of the Revolution Society? What can I do with all of those family photos left to me by my parents? What if I cannot find my family in the U.S. Census when I know that they were here someplace? Who on earth cares to see that marriage certificate of my grandparents?
