Text Box: Information has been sent to us about a programming opportunity from the OASIS Institute. Please read the information below, which details the program being offered and contact Michelle Bennett at (812) 237-2336 or e-mail mbennet4@isugw.indstate.edu
if you would like to participate in this program. If enough people are interested we will use the information from the OASIS Institute as a course in Fall 2008. We will also need people interested in leading this course. The OASIS Institute, a national nonprofit organization serving the educational needs of mature adults for 25 years strong, is looking for lifelong learning partners to offer “The Immigrant Experience: A Journey to Becoming American” a curriculum developed in Text Box: part by a major grant from The National Endowment for Humanities on the history of immigration in America. The curriculum includes five core courses developed by a team of working scholars and examines the role of immigrant groups in forming our nation’s multicultural society.
The courses are:
The Peopling of America: A History of Immigration in America
An American Experience
The Kaleidoscope Camera: Viewing the Diversity of the Immigrant Experience through Film
Our Food: Immigrant, Ethnic and American
The Marketing of Ethnicity.
The program materials include:
Text Box: An overview, which provides information about the project to the programming coordinator and includes how the program works and how much time should be planned for each session
Five copies of the Leader’s Guide, which includes background information, syllabi for each of the five core courses, additional references for further research and two Power Points for use in the classroom
One book set and one film set for use by course instructors
A student evaluation form to be competed at the end of each course and returned to the OASIS Institute.
