Recreation and Fitness HEALTH CENTER ACTIVITY DIRECTOR COURSE
This course discusses the philosophy and
development of therapeutic recreation programs for nursing home
residents. The physical,
social and emotional needs of the elderly and the relationship of
the individual and leisure interests are explored.
A 90-hour practicum experience is required.
Students successfully completing the course will meet the
requirements as an activity director by the Indiana State Department
of Health and Illinois State Department of Health.
NOTE:
This course will be taught primarily online.
Students must have access to a computer with Microsoft Office
to participate in the class.
Registrants will be given an ID number and password to begin
accessing the class on February 4, the first day of the online
class.

Jan Cockrell, is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation
Specialist and Director of Leisure Services at
Westminster
Village.

Mini Medical School
The
Thirteenth
Annual Mini
Medical
School
is designed to provide an interactive forum to discuss medical
training, medical procedures, medical news, and medical concerns of
the public. The free
service is offered by Indiana University School of Medicine Terre
Haute. Speakers will
appear as a panel of health care providers.
The panels for each session will be comprised of physicians
and health care professionals related to diagnosis and treatment of
the symptom under discussion.
Location, Dates, and Time
Sessions will be held at the
Landsbaum
Center for health Education, located
just south of Union
Hospital at 1433 North 6 ½
Street. All
sessions will be held on Tuesdays, from 6:30-8:30 pm.
There are ten sessions for the 2008 series.
Cost
and Enrollment
There is no charge to attend the Mini Medical
School.
Reservations, however, are recommended as seating is limited.
