The Division of Student Affairs at Indiana State University offers a number of assistantships to students enrolled full-time in graduate studies on the ISU campus. Persons in these positions provide services and advisement to students and student groups. They assist in the development and implementation of programs in their assigned department, and participate in staff professional development opportunities. Individual job descriptions are created in consideration of the career objectives of the person holding the position, as well as the needs of the department to which the person is assigned. For most assistantships in Student Affairs, preference is given to students enrolled in the Master's in Student Affairs and Higher Education or Doctorate in Higher Education programs.
Waiver of tuition (in-state or out-of-state) is included in the compensation package. Opportunities for summer employment may also be available. After the above waiver is applied, the student is responsible for a Building Fee, a Technology Fee, a Transportation Fee, and a Recreation Center Fee. These fees can change from year to year. In 2008-2009, the Building Fee was $82 per semester hour. Please see the Bursar's Office website for up-to-date information on other fees.
Specific compensation figures for the next academic year will generally be established by February. Specific assistantship vacancies may not be known until late in the Spring Semester.

Each assistantship typically requires a separate application and interview process. An assistantship at Indiana State University and at nearby colleges is a professional salaried experience providing opportunities to acquire valuable skills and to apply classroom-based learning. Most assistantships provide a cash stipend plus a tuition waiver (including out-of-state tuition). Live-in positions typically provide room and board also. Twenty hours work each week is required in an assistantship position.
Assistantships are offered on a limited basis and are competitive, at the same time, all students who sought assistantships and scholarships were able to obtain them on campus. The Department works diligently to provide qualified students with resources to meet their financial obligations. Offers of an Assistantship are typically made by March 15 so the application and interview process must be complete by then.
