John Gallagher is responsible for managing computer skills training programs for the ISU community, supervising the production and presentation of computer training materials, and producing documentation for CIRT projects and initiatives, including the development of materials related to emerging technologies being tested and/or demonstrated.

John joined ISU in January 1978 as a staff member in the Office of Student Financial Aid, where he developed as a programmer and was a leader in the move to computerized systems to handle data processing. He then spent several years in Business Affairs, where he continued to write programs and create small systems, and also managed a small network and server. After a brief stint at the Help Desk, he joined Institutional Computing Services (ICS) as a Programmer/Analyst and trainer, working with IA and Banner administrative systems and successfully serving as coordinator/host for two regional user conferences, as well as assuming responsibility for the department's web site and documentation. As part of a reorganization of the Office of Information Technology (OIT), John moved to the Training and Documentation unit, where he has developed and taught workshops for faculty and staff wishing to learn more about Microsoft Office products and GroupWise.

John attended Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan, and earned a B.A. in Mathematics with a minor in Secondary Education from Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, Indiana. He has taken additional coursework at ISU in computer science and other areas of interest.
