JENNIFER N. GRIMES, Ph.D.

Dr. Jennifer N. Grimes is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice at Indiana State University.  She received her Ph.D. in Justice Studies from the School of Justice & Social Inquiry at Arizona State University in 2007.  Dr. Grimes’s research and teaching interests include crime and the mass media, punishment and social control, public opinion and criminal justice policy, and evaluations of correctional and community-based treatment and rehabilitation programs.  Her work has appeared in such journals as the Journal of Crime and Justice, Sociological Quarterly, and Federal Probation.

 

Dr. Grimes is a member of the American Society of Criminology, Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences, Midwestern Criminological Association, the American Correctional Association, and the Indiana Correctional Association.  She is on the Board of Directors for the Indiana Juvenile Justice Task Force and Editor of the Criminal Justice Board for the Multimedia Educational Resource for Learning and Online Teaching (MERLOT). She currently serves as a reviewer for Crime Media Culture: An International Journal and as the Prisoner Advocate on ISU’s Institutional Review Board. 

 

Prior to accepting a position with Indiana State University, Dr. Grimes was a Senior Research Analyst in the Research & Development division of the Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections.  She has also worked for the Arizona Criminal Justice Commission, both in their Statistical Analysis Center and in their Drug, Gang, & Violent Crime program.  In these capacities, her responsibilities included completing statutorily mandated criminal justice research reports and conducting evaluations of numerous correctional treatment programs.

 

Dr. Grimes has been teaching in the areas of criminology, criminal justice, and justice studies for over five years.  Previous teaching appointments include Teaching/Research Associate of Justice Studies at Arizona State University and Adjunct Instructor of Criminal Justice for the Maricopa Community College system in Arizona.
