Sycamore Business Advisors
Business 401, otherwise know as Sycamore
Business Advisors (SyBA), is a capstone course.
The class is actually a strategic planning
consulting business through which businesses and
not-for-profits can "hire " ISU business
students to solve their problems in marketing,
organization, production - anything they might
want help with. Several groups benefit from the
experience: students, the business community,
community organizations, the College of Business
and Indiana State. SyBA is very student driven,
and the success of each client business is truly
in the hands of the student leadership assigned
to the project.
Typically, the SyBA class is divided into groups
and each group works with a specific client.
Previous clients have included, among others,
Billie Creek Village, the Wabash Valley
Community Foundation, ISU's Center for Public
Service and Community Engagement, and Kids Wagon
& Kreative Korner. Ninety percent of students’
time is spent working outside of the classroom,
meeting with clients, fellow employees/students
and compiling recommendations for the
businesses.
SyBA has developed and grown a great deal since
its inception in the summer of 2002. Each
semester, the group seeks out more new clients
to work with the student advisors. If you own or
know of a business or not-for-profit group that
could use SyBA’s help, contact Art Sherwood at
(812) 237-2094.
