FAQ about Financial Services
1. What does the term “Financial Services
Industry” mean?
The financial
services industry includes organizations that
deal with financial planning, investments,
insurance and risk management, banking,
accounting, corporate finance, and others.
Financial services also includes the regulatory
aspects such as Congress, state legislatures,
international governments, and more.
2. What entry level positions might be available
in the financial services industry?
Entry level
positions are available with majors in
accounting, finance, insurance and risk
management, and more. New hires perform a
variety of duties including auditing, tax
preparation, financial planning, investment
sales, insurance claims and underwriting, sales,
banking, and analysis of financial
opportunities. Financial services positions
exist in other industries as well.
3. Can students who major in areas other than
Accounting, Finance, or Insurance and Risk
Management find a place in the financial
services area?
We're looking for
students who intend to work in the financial
services industry, and thus students who major
in a variety of disciplines would qualify.
Management Information Systems students work on
information systems and security. Marketing
students engage in market research, promotion,
sales and so forth. Management majors work
within the human resources area and serve as
supervisors, branch managers, and middle
management. Business Education majors develop
curriculum and teach personal financial
planning. Operations Management and Analysis
students might oversee operations or provide
statistical analysis. Business Administration
majors can select courses that support financial
services.
Completed application packet should be received no later than
November 30, 2007 to guarantee review. All
applications for Networks Scholarships will
be reviewed by the Networks Scholars
Selection Committee early in January 2008. Leading
candidates will be scheduled to attend
Interview Day on the campus of Indiana State
University tentatively scheduled for February
9, 2008.
