Andy Warhol Foundation donates six new prints to ISU

The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts has donated six prints by the pop artist to the Indiana State University Permanent Art Collection. The prints complement the Warhol Foundation's 2008 donation to the university of 154 Warhol Polaroids and black and white photographs.

From the dejected spirit of the Great Depression ("Union Square" by Reginald Marsh) and America's response to September 11th ("Monument to a standing New Yorker" by Tony Fitzpatrick), to the current immigration debates ("Aquellos Polvos" by Enrique Chagoya), numerous works explore societal issues of the 20th and 21st centuries. Nicholas Kahn and Richard Selesnick's "Truppe Fledermaus (Bat Troup)" photographs create a fantastical mood in order to poetically address issues related to our fragile ecosystem.

Ghosts, humans in bat costumes, and anthropomorphized birds are among the images in the University Art Gallery's exhibition "Lies that Tell the Truth: Magic Realism in Contemporary Art." On display from Feb. 22 through March 22, the exhibition includes works by nine internationally acclaimed contemporary artists - Kate Breakey, Susan Hauptman, Nicholas Kahn and Richard Selesnick, Peter Milton, Shana Moulton, Shana and Robert ParkeHarrison, and Xiaoze Xie.

Indiana State University, in partnership with Arts Spaces Inc. - Wabash Valley Outdoor Sculpture Collection, will dedicate a new sculpture by Seattle artist Brandon Zebold during a brief ceremony at 3:30 p.m. Sept. 21 near Holmstedt Hall.
The sculpture, "ISU Sphere," can be found on the south side of the building, across from another public art piece, John Van Alstine's Via Solaris. Designed specifically for this site, "ISU Sphere" will become part of Indiana State's Permanent Art Collection.

An oil painting from Indiana State University's Permanent Art Collection will be featured at an international exhibition in Belgium.
The 1935 painting "Smoke Stacks" by American artist Joseph Stella will be part of the historical exhibition at "MANIFESTA 9, the European Biennial of Contemporary Art" in Genk, Belgium.

The Indiana State University art department invites the public to view recent works by Masters of Fine Arts candidates and Master of Art candidate at exhibitions on display Nov. 7-22.
The exhibitions include a diversity of media, from monoprints and digital prints to audio, video and mixed media installations.
