The Class of 1964 dedicated the four lights in the middle of the quadrangle to the university

February 8, ISC becomes Indiana State University. North Central Association (NCA) approves doctoral programs in selected areas. The first independent doctoral degrees were initiated.
School of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation established
South Campus site developed for Married Student Housing units. Apartment style buildings were opened in 1965, 1967, and 1969
Mills and Rhoads Residence Halls were completed

July 1, Alan C Rankin was named President (1965-1975) He was inaugurated on April 14, 1966
Academic Mace and the Great Seal of the President of the University were first used in the inauguration ceremony of President Rankin. The mace was a walking cane owned by Professor Caleb Mills, the "Father of Public Instruction" in Indiana Hines and Jones Residence Halls were completed
Holmstedt Hall classroom building completed
Marathon Oil Company Building acquired and renamed Alumni Center. The Condit House was then designated the residence of the President of the University
November, Memorial Stadium was acquired. The Astroturf playing surface and first phase remodeling were completed in 1967

Indiana Chief Ouabachi replaces the Sycamore Tree as the school's mascot
