- This is a collection of what has been gathered over the years through the athletics department and their participants including coaches, athletes, and the sports information department. The athletic collection consists of information that can be drawn back to the earliest beginnings of athletics at Indiana State University.

Scope and Contents note
The Indiana State University Athletics Collection consists of media guides, news clippings, press releases, photographs, film, video, posters, apparel, posters, trophies, scorebooks, coaching notes, and conference printed guides.
The athletic archives is a collection of the athletic material that has been assembled throughout the years of competition at Indiana State University. The media guides of the major sports begin in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s and are virtually complete through present day; whereas, other minor sports often begin to produce media guides in the 1980’s. The photographs of this collection consist of individual shots as well as team and group shots. Much of the athletic archive is a collection of newspaper clippings, news releases, and stats/results relevant to a specific sport. These statistics often include seasonal stats of how the team has performed. In addition to the team statistics, the major sports often include individual statistics that can be broken down by year. The minor sports however are less likely to have individualized statistics in the earlier years of their existence. However, more recent records detail more of individual statistics related to the minor sports.
Athletic Apparel- The athletic apparel is the attire donned by the athletes during their competitions. The archives staff organized this collection by sport, which was donated by coaches, the athletic department, and other ISU affiliates.
Athletic Committee- The Athletic Committee series was organized by the Athletic Committee, which includes their agendas, proposed directions, and notes from the committee. This collection covers the years of 1984-1995.
Buttons/ Pins- The buttons and pins were arranged by the archives staff. The collection of various pins and buttons were offered throughout the years of competition during pregame promotions, giveaways, and those items that were able to be purchased at the vendor stands within the arena. This includes buttons of the “#1” pins as well as general sycamore pins, in addition to others.
Film- The films were arranged by the archives staff. This series is a collection of the film canisters of the 1940’s through the videotapes of the early 1990’s of football, basketball, and as well as a few gymnastics competitions. The coaching staffs would use the film as scouting tools for the upcoming games, as well as to review the previous performances of both their team and the individuals they coached. These films were not often narrated since they were not the game footage that would be shown on television; rather these films are primarily silent films by students and other ISU personnel.
Gateway Conference- The Gateway Conference series was arranged by archive staff. This collection of Media Guides is from the Gateway Conference. The Gateway Conference is the conference in which the Indiana State football team participates in currently as of 2009. The establishment of this conference is due to the lack of universities in the Missouri Valley Conference offering football as a sanction sport; therefore a number of schools formed the Gateway Conference to serve as the active governing body to the universities from a number of conferences. The Gateway Conference was also the conference which all the women’s sports belonged to through 1992. The media guides offer a brief look at each university’s statistics, rosters, results, schedules, and general information about the universities within the Gateway Conference. In 1992 the Gateway changed their name to the Gateway Football Conference since the conference only included football teams. In 2008 they changed their name once again to the Missouri Valley Football Conference to better align itself with the Missouri Valley Conference.
ISU Cheer Organization- The Cheer Collection was arranged by archive staff. This collection includes any materials relating to the cheer organizations of the Sparkettes, Song Girls, and Cheer Team including scrapbooks, music, spirit sticks, and photos.
ISU Media Guides- The media guides are publications by the Indiana State Athletic Department for use by media personalities and recruitment at ISU. The media guides provide information about participants, coaches, up coming games, and history (i.e., past competitions and statistical history). Media Publications- The media publications were collected by the Indiana State Athletic Department and coaching staffs sequentially through the years. The publications were collected either specifically for one sport or arranged sequentially through the course of the whole season collecting all the press releases, news clippings, and media guide related to that year. Missouri Valley Conference- The Missouri Valley Conference collection was arranged by the archive staff. This collection is of media guides from the Missouri Valley Conference. The Missouri Valley Conference is the conference that Indiana State’s men’s sports, except football, belong to; and since 1992 all women’s sports belong to it as well. These media guides offer statistics, rosters, results, schedules, and general information about other universities in the conference.
NCAA Publications- NCAA publications were arranged by archive staff. This collection of NCAA related materials are items which do not directly relate to a specific sport at Indiana State. These media guides include information about individual championships, who participated in the championship, stats relate to the championship and the tournament in regard to the team or individual, the coaching records in the tournament and results, attendance and sites, those that participated in the tournament and the brackets, championship information, and preview of the championship.
Player Profiles- The player profiles were arranged as a collaborative effort by files originally used by the Intercollegiate Athletic Office, then as relevant information has become available in regards to a specific player it has been added to their particular file. These profiles include information from news clippings, press releases, and information sheets that the athletes would fill out at the beginning of each year. Information relating to coaches can also be found in this series.
Poster- These posters consist of those that were offered by the teams with their schedules represented on them, as well as posters for past possibilities for mascot options.
Schedule Cards- The schedule cards were arranged by year by the archival staff. The schedule cards include the current schedule of a particular team related a given year for a team; these cards also usually feature a member of the team on the reverse side or the Sycamore logo.
Scorebook- The scorebooks were arranged by the archives staff. These books were used to keep track of individual, as well as, team performance at a given competition. The scorebooks in this collection include oversized gymnastics and football scorebooks from particular years that are not able to fit in regular sized storage containers with the other team’s information.
Team Photos- The team photos were arranged collaboratively by the files originally used by the Intercollegiate Athletic Office, then later added to, as relevant information on a specific player was made available. This segment of the collection includes team photos, negatives, and contact sheets, as well as any unidentified photos of individuals or teams specific to a their given sport.
Trophies- The trophies were arranged as they were donated to the Archives through a number of various athletic organizations both on and off campus.
